Dragocena so srecanja z njim, saj nas vedno rad obdari z novimi znanji in dosežki. In takega ga poznamo ves cas njegovega ustvarjanja.

Academic painter Veljko Toman is a distinctive colourist. In 1967 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, where he studied painting and later restoration. His artistic evelopment began in a generation of highly talented students, such as Lucijan Bratuš, Anton Demšar, Milomir Jevtic, Irena Majcen, Negovan Nemec, David Nez, Dimco Pavlov, Anton Racki, Gorazd Sotlar, Igor Skulj, Miroslav Suput, Rudi Spanzel, Vojko Stuhec, Vera Terstenjak, Tomo Vran, each of whom left their own unique stamp in Slovene art.

Veljko Toman successfully combined two branches of art, continuously developing his artistic skills and knowledge and never allowing any break in his artistic activity. As a faithful landscapist and admirer of nature and hea thy living, he has participated in numerous art colonies which have brought him new creative impu ses as well as frequent honours and awards.

In short, Veljko Toman is a temperamental, "live" artist who invests love and enthusiasm in his conservation and restoration work, and unrestrained energy in creating painting masterpieces. Precious are those meetings with him, as he never fails to surprise us with his new discoveries and achievements. Veljko Toman's entire artistic opus radiates the artist's unique feeling for nature. He willingly devotes himself to both nature as a whole and to landscape views in different seasons of the year or of places unknown to us, or merely to a single, yet dominant, cell of nature: the sun, a tree, etc. He approaches every artistic theme with an incredible feeling for the most faithful transfer of a fragment of nature to the canvas. He does not strive to produce perfect copies of selected details, but attempts to reproduce and reexperience the harmony o plays in natural environments, irradiating man and his surroundings with explosive natura strength and giving him new strength and energy. After decades of neglect for the qualities of nature and its significance for the human environment, we are now returning once again to natural values and longin for the healthiest possible way of life. Throughout his artistic journey, Veljko Toman as walked his own unique path, remaining faithful to nature and endeavouring, through his creations, to return to nature what nature has bestowed upon him. This is why his paintings are so distinctive, impressive and overflowing with energy. With this discovery in mind, one can easily approach and understand his art, which continues to attract all those fascinate by the beautiful. Veljko Toman's art confirms the rule that works of art are materializations of the inner worlds of their creators. And each of his paintings clearly manifests this principle. In twenty-five years of artistic creativity he has produce an extensive artistic opus, exhibited his works at numerous locations in Slovenia and abroad, and has been well received by critics. A confident stroke of the brush, a harmonious blend of colours radiating a burning energy - this is the art of Veljko Toman. Size is insignificant, as the artist equally masters both large and small formats.

When contemplating about those who influenced Toman's artistic development, one can hardly overlook the influence of German painters (the Die Brucke group) and one of the greatest painters of all times - Vincent van Gogh. This is most evident in Toman's sun cycle - the sun represents a source of energy and life on the planet, and in Toman's creations it shines on canvas in all its bri iance, like a live witness of nature. Toman's polished iconography, transcribed in an emotional playofcolours and light, remains anchored in the development of Slovene painting as a stampof the incredible expressive power of a great artist, which Veljko Toman undoubtedly is.
